Serra da Estrela with the kids

Before going, check the state of the slopes, mechanical means, accesses, weather and livecams here.

Purchase the passes, classes and equipment hire online and in advance here to ensure availability of classes and not waste time buying tickets in the two machines that exist at the resort if it is too full.

equipment
€25 for adults and children including skis+poles+boots or snowboard+boots

If you already have some equipment, you can purchase separately what you need (helmet / poles / ski boots / skis / snowboard boots / snowboard). The helmet is included in the rental of equipment for children from 3 to 12 years old.

forfait
It is the card that allows access to tracks, mechanical means and insurance. It is mandatory for anyone who practices skiing or snowboarding and cannot enter the resort without one.

70€ family pack (2 adults + 2 children) or
€25 per day per adult and €15 per day per child

[amounts per day decrease if you purchase equipment and/or pass for 2 or 3 days]

classes
You can have 1 hour lessons with a teacher: 1 student €45 and for each extra student +€5 [this price does not include ski pass or equipment].

two notes:
- the resort's main restaurant is still closed so only eat at the Tower (2 min by car)
- sleds and the like cannot enter the resort so before buying sleds make sure there is snow outside the resort so you can use them

For those who want to introduce the kids to skiing and snowboarding, going to Serra da Estrela is a great option even if it's not covered with snow because whenever possible the resort produces snow: kids won't need many slopes to learn and practice and it's just a few hours away from Lisbon and Porto. If the weather doesn't allow it or if the accesses are cut off, there are nice places to go with kids in the areas of Seia, Covilhã and Penhas da Saúde.
